Lead Interior Designer

We are seeking a real creative rockstar (attitude required) in a Lead Designer role. A true go-getter that needs no micro-managing. You must be able to handle a ranging scope of responsibility with each project and be comfortable with a high level of ambiguity. Stuff changes. Constantly. And you'll need to be ok with that. Strong attention to detail and professionalism are required but we can't have someone taking themselves too seriously. The Lead Designer will collaborate with the Creative Director to establish the creative vision for design projects and lead the design team in executing high-specification interior design projects. They will manage direct reports, streamline processes, and ensure adherence to project timelines and budgets.
DESIGN DIRECTION
- Collaborate with the Creative Director, to determine the creative and conceptual vision for all design projects.
- Responsible for leading and managing the design team in the execution of all high-specification, bespoke interior design projects.
- Design bespoke furnishings, including case pieces, upholstery, and lighting.
- Maintain knowledge of space planning, market trends, and products.
- Participate in design markets, vendor classes, and training sessions as assigned (travel may be required).
DESIGN EXECUTION
- Provide strong project leadership and seamless service to our clients, with exceptional communication throughout.
- Deliver confident, experienced, and skilled space planning, and apply knowledge of the planning process and building regulations where applicable.
- Provide approval of all design boards, client presentations, project documentation, and product proposals.
- Lead regular internal and external design team meetings to ensure projects are continually on track and client expectations are exceeded.
- Visit ongoing project sites as needed to ensure designs are executed according to project documentation and L&L brand standards.
- Respond effectively to complex questions and troubleshoot problems, whilst working and switching between various projects.
- Apply strategic thinking to forecast, identify, and communicate risks. Bring ideas and solutions to each project.
- Utilize strong sales techniques to achieve monthly sales targets as set by the company budget.
- In coordination with the Chief of Staff, schedule all client milestone meetings as projects progress.
- Maintain the installation schedule and coordinate timing with all necessary departments.
MANAGEMENT
- Collaborate with the Creative Director to set internal design standards and guidelines and ensure implementation.
- Manage and develop the design team, report back to Leadership in a constructive manner, and highlight successes and failures.
- Streamline processes and procedures to increase quality and efficiency, as needed.
- Adhere to project timelines and hit internal and external milestones. Provide regular and timely updates and progress reports.
- Promote L&L Guiding Principles and consistently work towards improving the team and client experience.
- Manage Design team workload and project hours.
- Forecast design income and work with the appropriate department to establish a timeline for new jobs
Required Skills & Abilities
- NCIDQ certification preferred
- Degree or equivalent in Interior Design/Interior Architecture.
- Minimum of 6 years post-graduate experience with a minimum of 4 years in the luxury residential sector including management of direct reports.
- Proficiency in SketchUp (or equivalent), Photoshop, Apple, and Google products.
- Strong background in Interior Architecture, a high standard of technical ability, and broad knowledge of materiality.
- Passion for FF&E with vast knowledge of suppliers, products, and specialist finishes.
- Experience working on all aspects of high-specification interior design and construction projects, through all stages of work, from concept to completion.
- Strong financial understanding of project costs including budget awareness.
- Exceptional eye for scale and balance, detail and color.
- Impeccable and concise communication and presentation skills, verbal and written, including fluency in spoken and written English.
- Must have an active driver’s license and a clean driving record.

The Designer is responsible for completing assigned interior design tasks and assisting the Senior Designer, Lead Designer, and Principal Designers in high specification, unique, residential projects. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT
- Assist in creating design, mood, and layout boards
- Assist in drafting and revising floor plans
- Take field measurements and document site conditions accurately
- Support the preparation of client presentations and design deliverables
SOURCING + VENDOR COORDINATION
- Source finish selections and materials as directed
- Request and enter custom quotes and bids
- Coordinate and deliver samples and materials to and from vendors and clients as needed
- Organize and maintain the sample library so materials are current, labeled, and accessible
PROJECT + BUDGET SUPPORT
- Assist in the creation and upkeep of project budgets
- Prepare materials and documentation for client meetings
- Track task deadlines and flag items at risk of slipping to the responsible designer
STAGING, INSTALLATION + PHOTOSHOOT
- Assist in staging residential spaces
- Support installation days, including moving and placing furnishings, organization, and pack up
- Assist on photoshoot days with setup, styling support, and breakdown
Required Skills & Abilities
- NCIDQ certification preferred
- A degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or similar, OR a minimum of 3 years work experience in a similar position
- Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot when issues arise and see jobs through to the end
- Proficiency in SketchUp is required; Photoshop and 2020 Kitchen Design software is highly preferred

The Design Intern assists the Senior Designer, Lead Designer, and Principal Designers on high specification, unique, residential projects, learning the craft from sketch to install while helping keep the studio running smoothly. This is a part-time position based in our Washington, DC office, with the possibility of moving to full-time. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT

Construction Project Manager
The Project Manager works under the direct supervision of the Lead Project Manager to facilitate the daily operations of interior design and construction projects. This role focuses on managing the field team, scheduling, site-level reporting, and material logistics to ensure projects remain on schedule and within budget.
Responsibilities:
PROJECT EXECUTION & FIELD MANAGEMENT
- Coordinate and manage the L&L Field Team and subcontractors to ensure project goals are met.
- Conduct frequent site visits to monitor compliance with plans, specifications, manufacturer requirements, and safety protocols.
- Supervise projects from inception through completion to ensure product quality and problem-solve as issues arise.
- Create and maintain daily site logs and upload photo documentation to the company’s construction software.
- Secure necessary trade, building, and dumpster permits as assigned.
- Oversee project close-out including preparation of punch lists, securing sign-offs, and final inspections.
SCHEDULING & PLANNING
- Create and maintain project schedules and three-week forecasts to ensure timely delivery of milestones.
- Proactively manage and communicate deviations from the schedule to the internal team and subcontractors.
- Develop contingency plans as necessary to keep projects on track.
MATERIALS & VENDOR COORDINATION
- Complete project take-offs and ensure all construction and FFE materials are ordered and delivered to the job site on time.
- Manage the field team's on-hand materials inventory to prevent project delays.
- Find and vet new vendors and subcontractors.
- Furnish updated hard copies of applicable construction documents to field personnel and subcontractors.
COMMUNICATION & PROFESSIONALISM
- Establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships among co-workers, partners, clients, and contractors.
- Participate in weekly project meetings and keep the Lead Project Manager informed of project status and issues.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
- 3–5 years of work experience in residential construction or a highly related field.
- Ability to troubleshoot issues as they arise and see jobs through to the end.
- Proficiency in Apple and Google products is required.
- Experience with Buildertrend or similar project management software is preferred.
- Excellent organizational skills and confidence when dealing with a wide range of individuals.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs unassisted.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Construction Assistant Project Manager
The Assistant Project Manager is the operational backbone of the project delivery team. Working directly alongside the Lead and Project Managers, this role keeps construction timelines moving, procurement on track, and subcontractors accountable - ensuring every Lisa & Leroy project is delivered on time, on budget, and to the standard our clients expect.
Responsibilities:
PROJECT TRACKING & REPORTING
- Generate and distribute daily reports on critical path FF&E ship dates to ensure on-time delivery and flag potential delays before they become problems
- Compile carpenter daily reports and track project schedules for Lead PM review
- Monitor key project milestones and communicate progress as directed
PROCUREMENT FOLLOW-UP
- Track all construction-specific procurement items - including tile, cabinetry, and related materials - maintaining a current estimated ship date spreadsheet
- Conduct regular follow-up with suppliers and internal teams to verify and confirm dates
SUBCONTRACTOR MANAGEMENT & COMPLIANCE
- Maintain and regularly update the master subcontractor list and contact database
- Vet new subcontractors against established company criteria including experience, reputation, and bid capacity
- Manage a comprehensive log of all subcontractor insurance policies, tracking expiration dates and contractual compliance including Worker's Comp
- Ensure all required documents - W-9s, Master Sub Agreements, and similar - are on file before work begins
ESTIMATING & BID SUPPORT
- Manage the bid invitation process by distributing plans and specifications to subcontractors in coordination with the Lead PM
- Follow up consistently on outstanding bids to ensure timely receipt of proposals
- Organize and maintain a standardized estimate folder with all received bids and backup documentation for PM review
ADMINISTRATIVE & SCHEDULING SUPPORT
- Manage the Lead PM's calendar including meetings, site visits, and calls
- Create and distribute pull lists for the project management team
- Organize and maintain digital and physical project files including plans, specifications, submittals, and RFIs
- Provide general administrative support to the PM as needed for project execution
